Hi, I’m Gemma
I’m the face behind The Daly Thread Studio based in Beeston, Nottingham.
I’m currently a one-woman band, so if you book onto one of my classes, you’ll be taught by me! I’m here to help you learn, make, solve problems and hopefully, have a good time while you’re doing it.
I’ve been sewing my own clothes for over 7 years and have been using a sewing machine for at least 12.
Over the years, I’ve made all sorts from bunting and tote bags to dungarees, dresses and coats. That’s one of the things I love most about sewing: once you know the basics, there are so many possibilities for what you can create.
After 20 years working as an Occupational Therapist in the NHS, I recently decided it was time for a change…and here I am!
Starting The Daly Thread Studio is my chance to combine my love of sewing with something I’ve always enjoyed doing: helping people learn new skills and gain confidence.
I pride myself on being patient and approachable, so if you get stuck on something, don’t panic! We’ll work it out together. My classes are designed to be relaxed and supportive, whether you’re completely new to sewing or looking to build on the skills you already have.
I’m also really passionate about protecting the environment. For me, sewing is one way of stepping away from the fast-fashion and consumerism cycle. Wherever I can, I try to use second-hand or recycled fabrics, and I keep my scraps to use in future projects rather than letting them go to waste.
Ultimately, I want The Daly Thread Studio to be a place where you can learn to sew, try something new, make things you’ll actually use and wear, and leave feeling proud of what you’ve created.
So, whether you’ve never touched a sewing machine before or you’ve been sewing for years, come and have a go. 🧵
